A Simple Dessert for Christmas, Easter or Any Other Occasion

(If you would like to skip my ramblings and go straight to the good stuff, I included an abbreviated version of my recipe at the bottom)

Being a married man, I find it difficult to tell people that I enjoy making desserts. The stigma (at least where I am from) is that men should only cook if a barbecue is involved, and baking or confections are for the "lady folk".(Their words, not mine) However, I do enjoy creating different treats for family events, and take pride in the praise my desserts get.
During the holiday season, my wife and I often find ourselves in need of a desert or treat to bring to get togethers and parties. The problem is, most people just don't know what to bring, or simply don't know how to make there own treats, which is where we were when we started out. One year, I decided that I would try to make my own chocolate truffles to give to my family as gifts. They didn't work out and my family got store bought gifts. The next year, I found a recipe for a treat that actually worked out, and since then I've been hooked! I keep coming up with creations to share with my family, and love soaking up all the words of adoration my desserts get!
Here is the recipe for one of my family's favorites, which is ridiculously easy to make:

Ingredients - 1 cup of Butter or Margarine
- 1 cup of Brown Sugar
- Enough soda biscuits or graham crackers to cover a baking sheet
- 1/2 cup - 1 cup of chocolate chips
- Sprinkles (yes, I said sprinkles)
Instructions - Pre heat your oven to 350 degrees farenheit. In a small sauce pan (or double boiler if you know what that is or have one) combine the butter or margarine and brown sugar and begin melting them at a very low setting on your stove top. You must stir often at this point, and constantly once things really get going, but right now you should grease a baking sheet and place a single layer or the crackers on it, leaving a space along the edges if you can.(The reason for this may become clear after you try this recipe for the first time)
Back to the stove top. Keep stirring the butter and sugar mix, constantly, for the next few minutes. I say a few minutes, but it may take longer, depending on how comfortable you are with heat, and if you have a double boiler. What ever you do, DO NOT turn the heat very high at all! This will burn the sugar, causing your treats to have a bad burned taste. Anyway, as things progress, you will notice the butter and sugar kinda separating, looking a bit like... well, it doesn't look good. Just keep stirring! Soon, the mix will start to boil, and at this time, you should quickly get a clear glass of cool water. No, not for you! After about 3 minutes of the mixture boiling while you stir, remove the wooden spoon and let some of the mix drip into the cool water. If the drop falls to the bottom and flattens, it's not ready yet! Let it boil for one more minute and try again, and keep doing this until the drip lands on the bottom of the glass and forms an opaque little ball. This is called... ahem... soft ball stage, and you are ready to pour the mixture onto the crackers. Pour the mixture onto the crackers, and spread evenly, then immediately put the baking sheet into the oven. Bake for 6 minutes, then remove, add the chocolate chips on top, then back in the oven for 30 seconds. (NO MORE!) Remove the sheet once more, spread the melted chocolate with a spoon, add sprinkles, and cool. You're done!
Sorry, that was a bit long winded!
Now, I told you this was going to be easy... and it is! So, to make it even simpler, I have also included an abbreviated version!

Instructions - Pre heat oven to 350. Melt butter and sugar at low temp on stove top, stirring constantly. Cover a greased baking pan with crackers and set aside. Keep stirring butter and sugar mix until boiling, then boil 3 more minutes or until a drop of the mixture into a clear glass of cool water forms a little ball. Pour on crackers and bake for 6 minutes. Add chocolate, then bake 30 seconds. Spread chocolate, add sprinkles, cool and enjoy!

See, much better! Try it! EVERYONE likes this!
